Relive Your Youth
Ride again the motorcycles from the best days of your life
Mike Hopkins Motorcycles (MHM) was established in 1978 by a former SA motocross champion motocross called Mike Hopkins and is now the oldest motorcycle shop in Cape Town, South Africa. Mike retired in 2014 and MHM was purchased by Thruxton Motorcycles and in 2020, both companies merged and move to a brand-new facility selling and servicing multiple brands in 2021.
Bob Hall has always loved and owned motorcycles, a successful IT business owner, retired and now part owner of MHM. He also has an extensive collection of motorcycles, many Japanese from the 70s and 80s.
“The big problem with owning lots of older bikes,” says Bob, “is finding time and people to keeping them running. I also love motorcycle touring with a small group of mates, and comradery of sharing the experiences had over a few cold beers at the end of a good days riding. So we came up with the idea of Classic Motorcycle Tours, taking like-minded enthusiasts for rides around the Western Cape, using the bikes as they are meant to be used and not hiding them away.”
Based upon this, the concept of supplying a complete tour package with guide rider, back-up support vehicle and spare bike was developed. The Western Cape has great weather, fantastic riding roads, relatively little traffic, and superb places to eat and stay. We want to ensure that the participants get to ride on best Cape roads, eat and drink the best food and wine, swop and ride different bikes and generally enjoy biking as if they were back in the heydays of the Japanese motorcycle manufactures.
